Phantasm CS Styles Preview
The page provides a preview of the free Styles made available to Phantasm CS range customers. The Styles are standard Adobe Illustrator type, but making use of the color-control live Effect tools found in the Phantasm CS range of plugins.
Styles provide an easy way to apply a pre-defined simple or complex effect to a selection of objects. The Phantasm CS range of plugins takes full advantage of their flexibility allowing for additional essential live color adjustments and graphic effects (such as Duotones and Halftones) to be applied. Many of the Styles shown here are multi-layered, defined with the use of Illustrator's Appearance palette/panel. Each can therefore be examined and modified by the user to make their own variation or simply take inspiration.

About the examples shown
Styles can be applied to all objects, but some will work better with certain object types than others. This is especially true with the differences between vector artwork and rasterized images; the latter not normally defined with fill colors or outline strokes. Therefore the majority of the examples shown below are based on the same artwork containing a vector graphic design (grouped) and an embedded photo. As may be seen, the photo isn't always affected in the same way as the vector artwork.
Several Styles - epsecially the "Starburst" - thrives on specific objects, in this case text lines or simple paths. These Styles are demonstrated with more appropriate example artwork.
Note that all Styles were developed for CMYK documents with set to 300dpi. Typically, the Styles can be used in RGB documents and/or at differing Effect resolutions, but may require further experimentation to perfect a desired look.

Bad Photocopy
A streaky black and white photocopy awaits every design with this retro effect using a combination of Phantasm CS color adjustment tools and Illustrator's own live Effects.

Blue Tint Radial Cut Edge
Both coloring the artwork black and blue whilst also applying a radial cut diffused edge. Note that the radial cut edges do not appear on rasterized artwork.

Duotone Diffuse
Highly atmospheric, slightly grainy and visually rich, suitable for both vector and raster artwork.

Gold Etch Cast
Produce a convincing liquid gold that has both smooth and abrupt surface variations.

Highlight Blues/Reds/Greens
Three variations of the same simple but effective Style making use of only the Hue/Saturation tool.

News Print
The Halftone tool in evidence with additional convincing touches such as paper discoloration, additional speckles and a slight blurring representing ink spread.

Selective Desaturation
Whilst tones such as reds and yellows remain, other tones are desaturated. A final touch of fine Halftone edging (vector artwork only) brings the Style alive.

Simple Sepia
A very simple Style based on the Hue/Saturation tool's Colorize mode. Always produces a realistic classic photographic effect.

Speckled Characters
Whilst first changing the color mood of the artwork, a series of small characters are overprinted, with further highlighted random characters to make this a unique and striking Style.

Starburst
Created primarily for text lines and simple shapes, this is a fully-features style that brings a party atmosphere to every design! Combining the Halftone tool (swapping plain dots with a streaking stars Symbol) with a rich layer of Effects and creative dash patterns.
