VectorScribe for Illustrator CS6 (Mac) now available!

Following intensive development and the successful release of Phantasm CS for CS6, Astute Graphics is proud to release VectorScribe for Illustrator CS6.
Once more, a big “thank you” to all our customers who we know have been waiting patiently for this moment.
VectorScribe was perhaps the most eagerly anticipated release of Astute Graphics’ plugins for CS6. This initial version is for Mac OS. Please be assured that we are working hard on the Windows version which will be available shortly, together with DrawScribe.

We have continued the tradition of all Astute Graphics releases in investing much time and effort in ensuring the host application’s look and feel are meticulously maintained. The level of integration within CS6 is very impressive.
Revealing the new expression parsing system
The first advantage of all the work undertaken to recreate the user interface for Illustrator CS6 is present in this release — an improved expression parsing system.
With native Illustrator, it has always been possible to enter values such as “10.4 – 3.7″. Now, commencing with VectorScribe for CS6, all VectorScribe tool value entry windows can accommodate more complex entries such as “(10pt/3.4) + 1.97mm”.
Try it today! More about this important new feature, which will soon feature in Phantasm CS, DrawScribe and SubScribe, will be discussed soon on this blog.
Beta status
As with the initial release of Phantasm CS for Illustrator CS6, it is initially being offered as a stable and mature beta. We are aware of no significant issues at present.
The new installer also features new beta versions (v1.6.0) of builds for Illustrator CS3 to CS5. If you operate these earlier versions of Illustrator, you may wish to upgrade to these latest versions which feature internal technical enhancements.
If any issues are found, please do not hesitate to contact us via beta at astutegraphics dot co dot uk
Upgrading
Existing Mac OS VectorScribe users can download the CS6 installer from www.astutegraphics.com/download/.
Simply quit Illustrator CS6 and run the installer, following the instructions.
If your existing license key is already for Illustrator CS3 to CS6 (click here for our automated license key reminder) and you are operating a computer previously licensed for VectorScribe using CS3 to CS5, no further action is required.
If your license is for an earlier version of VectorScribe or for Illustrator CS3 to CS5, you may upgrade from only £19 (approximately $29 or €24) by visiting our upgrade page…
14 day full trial
VectorScribe is available to download as a full 14 day trial from www.astutegraphics.com/download/
Enjoy!
YeeeeaaaaAa
Please, please! Throw us poor PC users a bone!
Hi Rory – understood and apologies that Windows users are inconvenienced for longer. But there has been good internal progress on the Windows front and we should be able to give you much better news in October, if not sooner.
I’m glad you guys are so focused on delivering a quality product, but I just can’t work without VectorScribe! It’s been a real struggle since upgrading to CS6… So I hope “if not sooner” comes true.
I just strongly feel the need to add my name to those that are really really waiting with bated breath for the Window release.
not until october?
Man, if I had known it was going to take this long i wouldn’t have upgraded to CS6–so much of my work is useless since I now cannot edit it correctly without the plugin…
I would rather have a beta to work with than have nothing…I am totally stuck with having a large amount of artwork using the plugin and now a ton of new files in CS6 that NEED the plugin.
I don’t understand why the PC version is taking so long.
1) Mac hardware is identical to PC hardware.
2) Adobe would not write two different plugin infrastructures if they could avoid it.
3) Are you seriously telling us that there are more Mac users of your plugins than PC users?
Hi Rory,
Hope I can help answer your concerns…
1) Indeed – but the operating systems are quite dissimilar
2) True for the core functionality of a plugin – but of of CS6 we now have to completely produce the whole user interface structure independently for each OS
3) Absolutely – Mac customers quite heavily outnumber Windows customers – and this imbalance continues to grow, which is why we felt compelled to develop for Mac OS first (nothing personal!)
Two weeks ago we posted the following:
http://pinterest.com/pin/173670129351411414/
A lot of the intensive CS6 development work throughout the year does target both platforms simultaneously, so the Windows releases should be much quicker.
However, I also want to emphasise that we need to stagger the releases as we have done as each one represents a huge task. If we released all plugins at once (by holding back the initial developments) then we would have likely seen a big simultaneous support issue.
Best wishes,
Nick
So basically you’re saying that the Windows plugins have worked for quite some time with CS6 but you’re focused on making the buttons look pretty because each OS has different methods of rendering buttons and Mac OS people deserve prettier buttons? This is unacceptable. You may consider it a compliment that I consider your plugins to be essential to my workflow, but the fact is that you sold a product to people who stake their livelihood on their ability to use such a product to pay their mortgage, school fees etc. It is irresponsible of you not to have hired more programmers and enlisted assistance from Adobe where applicable. On top of that, why should we check your blog regularly only to find vague assurances of maybe next month if we’re lucky? This is not a professional attitude.
I expect you will delete this comment rather than respond to it in any meaningful fashion. That seems to be the way you guys roll.
Hi Henry,
Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, but it’s not a case of making pretty buttons. The icons are identical on Mac and Windows, so this is not an issue.
We did hire another developer for this work. Without his exhaustive work, along with the rest of our team, the timescales would have been longer. It is very hard to convey simply how much work has already gone into this development work.
I am curious why you think I would delete your comment – we have deleted ones which were spam and found to be from made-up authors where multiple posts were made (we also checked by contacting them through the given emails).
So … you’ve rendered previous version of VectorScribe redundant with the current rebuild (as they don’t operate with CS6 versions of the applications they were initially designed to run in).
So what exactly did we (people who purchased VectorScribe less than a year ago) pay for? Less than 1 year of a functioning plugin? You cannot tell me that you as plugin developers did not know of Adobe plans to update, I think that was pretty widely known.
Will you be offering refunds? It seems pretty misleading to now expect these users to fork out more money (with no sign of upgrade only pricing) to continue using the plugin (with the same features, but nicer integration with the interface).
Hi Paul – ???????????
Please try downloading and running the CS6 installer. It is a unified installer for CS3-CS6. As the majority of our customers are on CS5 still, there is no way we’d drop support for that. We continue to also support CS3 and CS4.
Much of the UI development work has been to allow us to update all Ai CS versions simultaneously. This means a slightly longer time to develop these initial releases, but new updates – and products – will come around quicker in the future.
We haven’t highlighted the new CS3-CS5 versions in the CS6-enabled installer as there is no new functionality in these for users to appreciate even though many internal changes have taken place.
I hope this assures you of our commitment.
Sorry and surprised to hear that Windows users are the minority of your install base. I know you are working as hard and fast as you can, but I personally hope you have prioritized VectorScribe CS6 for Windows as your highest current priority. I’m sure there are lots of PhantasmCS folks needing their tool as well, but for me at least VectorScribe is the hardest toolset to live without day to day, and I’m really getting frustrated not having it available.
Best Regards,
Jim Heck
Paul wrote: “We did hire another developer for this work.”
Shoulda hired two
Hi Jim – thanks for your feedback. We’ll definitely keep this in mind.
Hi Henry – perhaps, but we also wanted to keep the upgrade charge (if any) as low as possible (£19UKP) as we know many users are freelancers and a more costly upgrade would have hurt a bit. But we’re currently looking for a new developer, so if you know anybody who has experience in vector design software developments skill on Windows and Mac, please ask them to contact us.
Hey Nick, at least you’re giving us feedback, and it is appreciated. We purchased Path Styler Pro a month before our involuntary upgrade to CS6, we’ve posted support tickets and sent a number of emails over the last few months, all of which have been completely ignored.
Hi Henry – strange, as that’s not like Shinycore (the developers of the Illustrator plugin Path Styler Pro). They’ve always provided excellent service – and we should know!
I’ll email the developer directly to draw his attention to this.
any “Good” news for PC users?
Sam asked: “any “Good” news for PC users?”
Yes Sam, we don’t use Macs!
Any updates my friends? In DESPERATE need to get these tools back…I would have happily paid extra for the upgrade (double the price even) if it meant getting the PC version a little sooner (or even quite a bit sooner).
Hi Carlos – yes, we’re looking to get some updates out by the end of the month for Windows users. But please refer to this blog and out Twitter and FB posts for the latest. We realise it’s been a long haul for you all…
Hallo!
I want to buy vectorscribe for pc and other product for vector modelling for CS6 only
When it will be available ?
Hi Petr – please see my previous comment. Thanks.
I just purchased PathScribe after having it recommended, and right now I’m finding myself absolutely infuriated by the completely misleading page where I placed my order.
On that page it says “VectorScribe Designer (v1) for Illustrator CS3 to CS6″. I’m a windows users, not a mac user, and I have to find out AFTER the fact that I bought the plugin that I can’t even use it. There might be information about this on your site, but do you seriously expect that all your customers read everything before buying?
I feel ripped off, you should at least inform your customers WHEN THEY BUY, that it is not yet out for windows.
I hope you will be fixing the buy page to reflect this, and QUICK. It’s too late for me, unless I contact paypal and get my money back, but at least maybe somebody else wont be cheated out of his or her money.
Shame on you!
Hi Søren – indeed, I made an error upon returning from the US by removing the combined Win/CS6 and “away” message from the order page. I was only meant to remove the “away” message and maintain the Win/CS6 warning. This has now been rectified: http://www.astutegraphics.com/buy/order.php
Apologies for this and an email is being sent directly to you.
Nick thanks for the speedy reply. Rarely is service of this level seen. Yesterday I was very frustrated, but an apology from my side is also in order. So I apologize for my rather rude approach.
Looking forward to trying vectorscribe (no more juggling back and forth between fireworks and illustrator)
Thanks Søren for your kind follow-up message.
Soren, you will find that it will be worth the wait, I remember way back in the mists of time (*cough*) when I last used the plugins that I found them impressive and they soon became an essential part of my workflow. Which makes this darned interminable wait all the more frustrating. But as they say, a watched boil never kettles.
Hi folks!
Houston we have a problem! I got Illustrator CS6 and i´m trying to install the beta release but… I got this:
http://www.rayacosta.com/images/img-VectorScribe.png
Says that I can´t install it. Any thoughts?
Ray
Hi Ray – this is a new “Gatekeeper” security function in Mac OS 10.8. Please have a Google of “mac 10.8 security install” or the like. One good explanation may be found here: https://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=25443
We are looking to become official in Apple’s eyes…
Wow! Nick, that works beautifully!
It was really smooth! Thanks!
Ray
We’ll the month October is allmost at it’s end and it’s fearlessly quiet……. When can i expect the PC version of vectorscribe for CS6? I bought it in May and i can’t wait to get started. Please give us some info about the current status.
I was thinking much the same. Any news yet?
Ditto here, I’m sick of using my older version of Illustrator when I have my fancy new CS6 waiting for me.
News on the missing PC plugins for CS6 would be nice. I feel that by the time these plugins come out CS6.5 has been released.
PC release timing here is extremely slow, making us PC users feel like 2nd class citizens.
Hi M – we updated yesterday with http://www.astutegraphics.com/blog/windows-cs6-mac-retina-and-windows-8-information/
I still feel like crying….it is nice to have some of the beta software but vectorscribe is the big-daddy (in my opinion). I’ll be more than happy to beta test vectorscribe–just so i can actually use it on some of my projects and edit older files.
I have to agree with everyone here. I am holding off on installing CS6 (which I have had for some time) because I feel crippled without Vector Scribe. CS6 has been out for almost half a year. The lack of updates on progress makes me think progress is slow due to lack of personnel or problems with Windows. Either way, if more resources are required, you owe it to your paying customers ot get it done.. I paid full price and use it for a few months. I have been without it longer that I was with it. Please get it done.
Robb, seriously? Almost a year? CS6 was released end of May. That’s hardly a year.
What is stopping everyone here from doing two installations (CS5 and CS6), exactly? Working professionals should have no real problem doing what it takes to do to get things done.
Is CS6 a great upgrade? Yes. Is it a magic bullet that will make you an awesome artist? No. Is it needed if you have CS5? No. So if you need Vectorscribe/Drawscribe/Phantasm that bad, go and use CS5!
I suspect that most of the rudely upset people here are amateurs who sit there, counting the minutes until release, all the while lording it over the developer every day (which actually makes development slower because they need to respond to in order to quell the unreasonable anger).
Rodo, seriously? Re-read my post. I didn’t say almost a year. You were probably so upset by people wanting answers that you went right into your rant without reading carefully.
From what I read online you can’t have both installed (correct me if I’m wrong).
I have every right to be put off by not being able to use a product I paid for. I want to upgrade to CS6 so that it takes advantage of the 12 gigs of RAM in my PC. Who said anything about a magic bullet. It’s funny that you say “rudely” and then categorize people as amateurs based on posts in this forum. Stop making predictions about who I am or why I want it. You don’t know me and what I do with Illustrator has nothing to do with what I expect as a consumer.
I don’t think the meat of my rant is whether CS6 has been out for a year or half a year. The meat of it is, you can install CS5 and CS6. That a professional who is in need of the AG tools will just use them in CS5 while waiting for the CS6 release.
So let me correct you: You are wrong. You can install CS5 and CS6 on the same machine.
Go shrivel up into your, “You don’t know me”, argument. I’m not saying people don’t have the right to be upset or needy, but they (including you), have been extremely rude with comments lately.
What’s so funny about me calling the rude people amateurs? Isn’t it true? That the people who kick and scream like little kids are not only being rude, but aren’t using their time in the most effective way to finish their work? That’s the difference between a person who needs to get something done and a person who just wants to bitch; The difference between an amateur and a professional.
Have any of you even looked at how nice Nick is being in the face of your rudeness? You’re all acting like kids who can’t have their candy.
“That the people who kick and scream like little kids are not only being rude, but aren’t using their time in the most effective way to finish their work? That’s the difference between a person who needs to get something done and a person who just wants to bitch; The difference between an amateur and a professional.”
The 2 are completely unrelated.
Wanting progress on something I paid for is completely unrelated to professional vs. amateur. Again, I am shriveling up in my “You don’t know me” (or anyone else for that matter) argument.
Nick has acted professional, as he should. I would do the same if it was my business. Customers of a product have every right to ask for progress and support. I think the comments have gotten a little more aggravated as months have gone by but that is to be expected from some (myself included).
On a side note, you come off as condescending.
Hi Nick, I had a look at your update link – I appreciate that you’re doing your best with the upgrade, but available ‘as soon as possible’ doesn’t really give us any useful information. Does that mean a month? 2 months? 6 months?
I have cs5 and cs6 installed but swapping between the two is a pain in the arse, and causes problems with the pattern-making feature of cs6, so unfortunately it isn’t a practical solution.
Hi Liz – over the past week we have now started rolling out the releases for Windows/CS6 (Phantasm CS and SubScribe are already available – please check http://www.astutegraphics.com/blog/category/cs6/ ). We are looking to ensure all plugins are available in short succession. We’ll be making more announcements next week.
OK, thanks for your quick reply.
Hi Nick–so to follow up on Liz’s question in regard to availability for Vectorscribe? Does that mean a month? 2 months? 6 months?
(@Robb, you were spot on with everything…)
I really need it for CS6 (PC) .. It’s november already.. Guys, seriously, I have lots of projects started in CS5 and I can’t finish anything without vectorscribe at least..
Hi Satori – we posted the following last week: http://pinterest.com/pin/173670129351991303/ So far final pre-public testing is going well. If no nasties appear, we’re looking end of this week for public release.
Hi Astute people –
Ok… I am dying here also – hoping for a quick release of the final VectorScribe and DrawScribe product. Amazing how a handy piece of software can change your world. Hard to go backwards whilst waiting.
So… I see 5 days ago you said you were doing final testing on the beta products for Windows users of Vectorscribe and Drawscribe….
Said it should be up within a week for purchase, I believe…..
How is it going? It would be a great treat to see it before Thanksgiving (USA)…. and I might even forego the pumpkin pie if you release your new desert first.
Curious also …. why would you do Subscribe and Phantasm before the two workhorses Vectorscribe and Drawscribe? Just curious….. thanks.
Hi Todd – final testing has gone well. Squashed a couple last-minute bugs and plan to release both VectorScribe and DrawScribe for Win/CS6 this week.
Why Phantasm CS and SubScribe first? SubScribe is our internal test base for the CS6 developments (as it’s also the least complex) and Phantasm CS has the largest user base.
It would be interesting for you to track how many downloads of Phantasm vs VectorScribe in the first month of Windows CS6 availability. Even though Phantasm may have a larger install base, I’d wager that there might be a higher percentage of day to day users of VectorScribe than Phantasm. I could be wrong, but to me VectorScribe has been god awful to live without whereas the utilities in Phantasm are something that in my mind could get used more infrequently at certain critical times in a project.
In any event, if you can get VectorScribe out this week, it won’t be a moment too soon for me.
Now all released for Windows and Mac!
