Computer Arts issue 188 coverDue to all the work associated with the launch of VectorScribe, the latest issue (June 2011, issue 188) of the UK-based Computer Arts magazine had been gathering dust. But we finally got around to a quick read and were very pleased to see Phantasm CS Studio v2, which was only launched under two months ago, receive a mention.

In the “Need to Know” section (page 97) the latest edition covers “Advancing Illustrator”. WIthin this page, nine plugins are listed including Phantasm CS. To pick a quote:

…adds some serious prepress weight to Illustrator’s arsenal.

Quite.

Thanks go to Computer Arts.

The following is not an exhaustive list, and if you also kindly tweeted about VectorScribe, we wish to thank you too!

Vector Basic Training book by Von Glitschka

Vector Basic Training cover logo

Not wishing to sound like a self-fulfilling prophecy, I will never be a great designer. The reason? I simply don’t have the patience. One of the key factors of good design is attention to detail. But before the detail is in place, my attention span has lapsed. So instead I console myself in the thought that I contribute towards design tools used by thousands to help make their artwork better. It could be worse…

If I did, like millions of people out there, wish to become graphic designer once more (I got away with it for several years) and earn a living from my skills in that area, I know I’d have to not only learn to be patient but also brush up my skills. This is where the latest book on the market would prove to be my bible — Vector Basic Training by the great Von Glitschka (published by Peachpit Press).

New Illustrator CS5 WOW! Book

Illustrator CS5 WOW! Book title

Looking on the office shelf, I can see a copy of Illustrator CS WOW! books ranging from CS through to CS4. I only joined the Adobe Illustrator crowd at version 10, and when CS appeared back in 2003, I wanted to learn a little more and it was Sharon Steuer’s book that I reached out for. I found it invaluable and it became part of a process which culminated in the launch of the Phantasm CS plugin for Illustrator.

Today is a good day because this morning I received the latest incarnation of the long-running series: The Adobe Illustrator CS5 WOW! Book published by Peachpit Press.

Phantasm CS review over at GoMediaZine

20 Aug

GoMediaZineProfessional cartoonist & cartoon illustrator George Coghill has just published a review of Phantasm CS over at the popular design blog GoMediaZine!

We advise that you read the review in full [click here], but here are some great quotes:

Phantasm CS can best be summed up by saying it offers Photoshop-esque functionality to Illustrator. Want to apply Levels? Check. Need to access the Curves? Got it. Need to adjust Hue/Saturation? Bingo.

Phantasm CS … offers the user an insane array of extremely well-implemented features that you may have since long given up on having within Illustrator.

If you are a seasoned Illustrator user, trust me you will have a tough time getting used to the fact that you can do all of this right within Illustrator. As I mentioned above, your brain will tell you “can’t do that” and you will need to re-learn that you now have the capability. That’s probably the biggest learning curve for Phantasm CS.

What more is there to add?
