But Wacom have invested much in their innovative technology over the years, culminating in today’s Bamboo, Intuos and range-topping Cintiq products.

The improved Ink Coverage tool was a great hit! This article shows it in action on a hi-fi color image.

FashionAn initial series of fashion-related articles started appearing in 2011. This follows the increasing number of fashion designers using both VectorScribe and Phantasm CS from leading brands such as Nike, Adidas, Bench. and Esprit. More articles directed to the fashion industry is planned for 2012.

No Phantasm CS pluginWhat happens if the Phantasm CS plugin is not present? This is a question often received. Don’t panic! The news is good. And this full story could be found in this article.

Vector Basic Training book coverVector Basic Training book by Von Glitschka : Learn more and do more. This shouldn’t just be restricted to reading blogs (yes – we realise THIS is a blog…!) but remember that medium called “books”? Thankfully the very talented vector designer Von Glitschka did and wrote a wonderful and deservedly popular book about our world. Here was our review which partly led to us bringing him over to the UK to give a free talk at the London IT Show in October.

Free and Useful Adobe Illustrator Scripts from Scriptographer

Scriptographer is a plugin for Adobe Illustrator which makes it possible to expand the functions of this vector editor. Some scripts may initially appear to be toy-like, but I recommend taking a closer look at them as they might help you to create your own unique style.

Let’s take a look at, in my opinion, the most interesting and useful ones.

Digital Artist magazine issue 25 cover

Issue 25 (October 2011) of Digitial Artist magazine features a full page review of VectorScribe Studio.

We’ll try not to give the whole game away, but as it’s so quotable, we can’t resist a few snippets:

Logo artists, designers and digital illustrators will love it!

Combining [VectorScribe's tools] all in one creative workflow, however, makes this comprehensive plug-in a superbly industrious tool, acting twice as quickly and even more steadfastly than the standalone Pen options.

This plug-in ensures that your will half your illustration creation time.

Many thanks to Digital Artist for the review! To read their verdict, you can buy this latest edition in all main UK newsagents today or via Imagine Publishing’s online shop.

Technical Illustrators.org

James Provost is a freelance technical illustrator and co-founder of TechnicalIllustrators.org. We have a lot of time for technical illustrators, especially those as accomplished as James, as in 1997 Astute Graphics was founded as a technical illustration studio. We kind of lost our way since…

The TechnicalIllustrators.org website is a great resource for all designers in this more specialist field of graphics. And it was great to be notified by James today that he has posted a HD video on YouTube highlighting some key features of the VectorScribe suite that have been found to be helpful.

The kind people over at GoMediaZine have previously reviewed Astute Graphics’ Phantasm CS plugin for Adobe Illustrator. However, in the past year, new blood has come aboard at GoMediaZine — and in that period Astute Graphics released both Phantasm CS version 2 and VectorScribe. So it was with pleasure when Simon H, their new editor, asked to review these tools from scratch.

Illustrator AktuellThe German-language publication Illustrator Service, part of MEV Verlag’s Illustrator Aktuell extensive resource for all professional Illustrator users, published an extensive review of VectorScribe shortly after its release, May 2011.

When we received copy of the review in German, we just had to ask the review’s author, Monika Gause, if we could reproduce the review in English so that an even wider audience could benefit from it. MEV and Monika very kindly agreed to allow this and provided the following translation.

This review of VectorScribe is an essential read for all potential users due to its thorough nature, covering each tool present in the MacUser-awarded 5/5 rated Illustrator plug-in.

Back in May, shortly after the launch of VectorScribe, we recorded some wonderfully kind VectorScribe tweets for prosperity. Well, in the couple of months following that post, we thought it time to revisit the land of Twitter and jot a few more down.

The following is not an exhaustive list, and if you also kindly tweeted about VectorScribe, we wish to thank you too!

MacUser awards VectorScribe a 5 mouse Editor’s Choice result

MacUser 5 mouse award

Astute Graphics has previously appeared in MacUser magazine’s pages. Back in 2008 they reviewed Phantasm CS and awarded our original plugin 4/5 (see Phantasm CS reviews page) in its infamous mouse rating. This was good going; MacUser doesn’t award its 5/5 rating lightly. And when the readers nominated us later that year as a finalist in the annual MacUser awards, it was icing on the cake.

But today we are grinning from ear to ear as MacUser Vol 27 No 15 (yes, MacUser has been around since 1985!) has appeared on the shelves in the UK. And pride of place in the Reviews section is VectorScribe accompanied by the wonderful Chopper illustration by Iaroslav Lazunov as featured in the Vector Tut+ tutorial. And best of all? 5 mice nicely lined up in a row along with the “Editor’s Choice” banner. We’re flattered.
